Recently the book, The Stranger on the Road to Emmaus was translated into Korean. This book is used as a text book for our students as a study of the message of the Gospel, and also an objective method to share the Gospel with those who know little or nothing about the Bible.
The kind folks at GoodSeed sent along copies of the newly printed Korean translation for our three Korean students currently studying at our Canadian Word of Life Bible Institute.

In the days following 9/11, western leaders and liberal religious figures were falling over themselves to claim that the religion of the airplane terrorists was a “religion of peace”. They claimed that the true core of that religion was non-violent, tolerant, something to be trusted. The terrorists were extremists, not representative of mainline believers (at least not those located in western cultures).
Taliban flashbacks
Under the religious Taliban, Afghanistan was one of the most opressive, restrictive nations in the world. Now we see the new, free, de-Talibanized, and democratic Afghanistan putting a man on trial for converting from the state religion to Christianity. The constitution of Afghanistan calls for such converts to be tried and put to death. That same constitution is based on the state religion. Ok, so the government is a bit heavy handed.. what about the people? The call from the masses and "senior religious leaders" is that if the state doesn’t kill this guy, they will. Tolerant? No. Extremists? Mainline, in Afghanistan at least. A religion of peace? You decide.

Stated so matter-of-factly that in creating the little things here on Earth, God also created the beautiful and imcomprehensibly huge heavens above.

Last night I spent some time out observing this footnote of creation with my telescope. It was an wonderfully clear and steady night. The Cassini division in the rings of Saturn were easily seen, along with other features of the great ringed planet.

(Click for larger image. Constelations from left to right: Canis Major, Orion, Taurus the bull)
When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
Psalm 8:3,4_____________________________________________

"Hey.. are you in the bathroom?"
This just goes to prove that you can have the runs, but you can't hide.

.. to the Owen Sound Camera Club. It was my first time visiting the club and I really enjoyed it. That night they were taking submissions for a regional photography competition and had an empty spot in Nature Macro catagory, and I had a picture that would qualify. So this picture of a bee at an crab apple blossem is going to be judged in April, but I need a title for it. What do you think? Leave me a comment with your idea.

Using Google Earth I was able to track my mom's flight home to the Moncton airport on Sunday night. Google Earth is one of the coolest programs I have come across in years, and this is just one of the reasons why. Someone has figured out how to put a layer with information about the flight you are tracking on Google Earth so you can see the altitude, direction, and flight speed. You can try it for yourself at www.aeroseek.com/webtrax/. If you don't have Google Earth, it still has an image showing the location of the plane.
Unfortunately, I didn't take a screen capture while she was still in the air because you could see the (exaggerated) height of the aircraft as well.
Literally.

Naomi took this photo last week of the wild turkeys that kept showing up in our yard. Not the kind of birds I expected to see at my feeder... I was afraid they had surrounded the house and were going to demand retribution for our meal the other night. "Come out with your wings up!"_____________________________________________

Little Miss Three Tooth is now Little Miss Four Tooth. After a pretty fussy week, Ellie is back to normal. Plus one tooth, of course.

For all those out there who don't believe in absolutes, here is one you can't argue with.
Rule: Before you shake any given food container, make sure the lid is on securely.

Note the pulverized plum on the table, floor, chair, high chair, pants, shirt, arm.. in fact, just about everywhere._____________________________________________

Why is wind deposited sand called a dune while wind deposited snow is called a drift?
Spring has left us for a vacation. We are experiencing very high wind and snow is piling up in big dunes. Or is it drifts..

The big melt is coming! After seven incredible weekends, Snow Camp is over for 2006. And apparently, so is our snow as high temperatures and rain (even thunderstorms) are in our forecast. We are thankful for the snow that we did receive in time for our Snow Camps. This year we had 655 young people come and be a part of the activities, games, and most importantly, hear the gospel and be challenged by God’s Word.

In other news... Ellie had a bath today. Grandmothers don't seem to mind giving her one._____________________________________________

Tonight we had some friends over for an early birthday party for Ellie.

Opening presents.

"Look daddy, money."

A piggy bank.

"Its my party and I'll cry if I want to!"

Ellie really isn't one for crowds and would rather sit and watch when there are people around. Had we been home alone with Ellie, this cake would have been destroyed._____________________________________________

Last Thursday night Ellie and I were home alone as Naomi was out to the staff lady's Bible study. I decided that we would watch a Baby Einstein video which Ellie seems to really enjoy. I have to put the footstool in front of the TV to keep her from messing up the screen with her little fingers (or tongue). She keeps trying to go around the side of the stool to get closer to the screen, but when I stopped her from doing that she tried a new tactic..

Thankfully, she isn't quite tall enough yet. She just kept unconsciously trying to get her leg on top of the stool as she was watching the video._____________________________________________

On Saturday I took some of our youth group to Toronto for a quizzing competition (Quiz teams is part of the Teens Involved program of Word of Life's Local Church Ministries). It was an adventurous trip.. On the way down we ended up taking the "scenic route" through some parts of Toronto I have never been, but ended up arriving with 5 minutes to spare. Before our trip back I had to make a quick call to CAA as I had accidentally locked the keys in the large van we had for the trip. Stupid me.

Our group did quite well during the quizzing. Out of all the matches they had, they only lost one each. One of those times was when the junior team lost in a match against the senior team (pictured). These guys really know their stuff!_____________________________________________

..of Ellie!
There is some song from some musical that asks how do you measure a year. I guess right now I measure it as 21 pounds, 31 inches, and thousands of giggles and smiles, and my heart full of joy.
Ellie’s 1st birthday is Sunday, March 12.
Like every new parent, Naomi and I are amazed that this day has come so quickly. So much has changed; she has grown so much. We have learned so much about her and ourselves.
We are looking forward to celebrating this occasion next week. My mother will be flying up from New Brunswick to join in the fun. Stay tuned.. we will post pictures of the birthday-cake-eating, icing-covered-girl sometime next week.
