Chaos Theory Solved

Associated Press

OWEN SOUND -- Scientists around the world are breathing a sigh of relief to now have an understanding of the much debated chaos theory. Under special lab conditions, observers were able to witness the creation of chaos out of order.

The lead scientist on this project said "Like all the great theories, like E=MC2, this one can be stated by a rather simple forumla. In this case, it is 'Order + Children = Chaos'."

The complete research project will be published in the scientific journal Parenting.

You are small

I found these pictures on another website.. no idea where they originally came from.

#1 The Earth and other "rocky" planets.
click for larger image

The Earth is the largest of the four inner planets (and much larger than Pluto). Think about how large our world seems to us.

#2 The Gas Giants

The Earth is tiny compared to even the smallest of the gas giants. Our planet is even 2 or 3 times smaller than the Great Red Spot, a storm on Jupiter that has been going for more than 400 years. Jupiter is the largest of these planets. It is so large that you could fit all the other planets and their many moons inside it. Jupiter "is 318 times more massive than Earth, with a diameter 11 times that of Earth, and with a volume 1300 times that of Earth." - Wikipedia

#3 The Sun

As large as it is, Jupiter is tiny compared to the Sun. The Earth is but a speck. I am less than that.

When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
what is man that you are mindful of him,
the son of man that you care for him?
Psalm 8:3,4

Going to the Chapel

On Saturday, May 13, Naomi and I both had the privilege of being a part of the wedding of our friends, Charlie and Lindsey Lyons. It has been great to see their relationship take seed, grow, and now blossom into marriage. And we had front row seats to the ceremony.. actually, not seats because we stood during the whole thing. Naomi was a bridesmaid and I was one of the groomsmen.

It was a wonderful day and the service was a meaningful testimony to the LORD's work in their lives. We were very thankful to be a part of their special day.

What was happening with Ellie while we were at the wedding you ask? My sister Alana knew we were looking for a babysitter for the two days we would be away and volunteered to fly up and look after our daughter. Thanks Alana.

Sometimes life cracks me up..

So I come home from work tonight and greet my wife and daughter at the door. It's almost 5:30 and we are going to be late for supper in the dining hall with the students (pizza night!), so I rush down the hallway to get out of the tie that has been cutting off the flow of oxygen to my brain all day. I then discover that another flow has not been cut off as my socks gush into the shag carpet in the hallway. What's that sound?? Water running??

I open the bathroom door and the entire floor is covered in dihydrogen monoxide pouring out of a crack on the side of our circa 1970 harvest gold toilet.

Scrambling to the basement to turn off the valve, I wade through a small lake that is coming through the ceiling in about 5 places. With the water shut off it is time to start cleaning up the mess before any real damage is done. Thankfully, it hadn't been flowing long, so nothing really got wrecked except a dozen rolls of toilet paper in the closet. The real quicker picker uppper..

We made a call to the boss, who not only does accounting but apparently knows how to replace a toilet. While I used a shop vac to try to get water out of the carpet and clean up the lake in the basement, Evan went to town to purchase a new throne for me. Naomi fled for high ground with our daughter, who by this time was pretty disturbed with all the commotion.

A couple of hours later the carpet is still drying out but I have learned a few things about replacing toilets from Evan. We still have no idea what caused the side of that thing to suddenly crack, but we are thankful that it didn't happen while we were out or during the night..

Glistening and Pristine!

Ministry Update - May 10

The school year is winding down with the last day of class on June 2. With only a couple of weeks left and warm weather outside, the students are finding it harder and harder to concentrate on their studies!

Upcoming Events for the Johnstones:

May 18-19 Campus Days. Our last Campus Days in April saw 20 young people attend and we had 10 new applications. Several of the others in attendance had already applied. We are praying for another successful Campus Days with many new visitors.

May 19-21 Alumni Reunion. Troy is the principal organizer for this event too. We are inviting all our alumni from the past three graduating classes to come back for the May long weekend.

Early June – Naomi will be working to finish the student’s yearbook. Much of the work has already been done by students and one of our interns, but the intern is getting married and will not be able to complete the project.

June 6-9 Word of Life National Staff Conference. Every two years we pull all of our staff together from across Canada for a time of encouragement from God’s Word and other meetings. This year we will be meeting in Schroon Lake, New York. Pray for safety for all our staff as they travel.

June 9- July 2 Vacation/Deputation. Troy and Naomi will be driving from Schroon Lake to Troy’s home town of Sackville, New Brunswick. While there we will be visiting supporters and churches to bring them up to date.

Please pray for:

  • Admissions Interns for next year
  • Students as they finish the academic part of the school year and prepare for their summer ministry
  • Young people from across Canada as they plan to join us in September at WOLBI

My sleepless daughter..

Its 1:12 AM and Ellie isn't sleeping tonight. Or is it this morning.. Since getting back from Alberta last week she has only slept through the night twice. Earlier in the night she woke up screaming and it took us about 20 minutes to calm her down. No idea why she was screaming so loud. After that we had about 30 minutes of calm before she started to cry a more normal cry. Well.. maybe she will sleep in for a bit.

My Activist Daughter

At a recent convention I picked up a few free awareness wristbands that you see everyone wearing now days. These ones say "PROLIFE". Anyway, I brought a few home for Naomi and I. The other night Ellie was playing with it and I slipped it on her arm, all the way up her arm in fact. She really liked it, so much so that when it fell off, she picked it up and put it back on. It took her a few tries to figure out that she needed to put her fingers together to put it on, but now she can often be seen with her own PROLIFE wristband (or armband in her case). Perhaps she knows that if we weren't pro-life, she might not be alive..

Campus Days

Last week we had Campus Days, a chance for potential students to come and check out the school. Wes (in the orange shirt) works with me in the Admissions department. We went to town to pick out prizes for the games and came up with what could be our best Grand Prize ever.. a figure of Sir John A MacDonald! He comes complete with a writing table, little plastic books, and spectacles. Ben, a Campus Days visitor, was the winner of this wonderful Grand Prize. Other people got chocolate bars and other tasty food, but only one got the figure of Canada's first Prime Minister. Lucky guy.

It was a very successful Campus Days.. possibly our biggest yet. We had 20 people attend, some who had already applied, some who were too young to apply now, and a bunch who were there for the first time. We ended up getting 10 applications from this event! As my boss put it, "where else can you talk face to face with young people about their future! I love it!"

They're back

Yesterday after church I drove to Toronto to pick up Naomi and Ellie from the airport. They had been out in Alberta for 2 weeks, and it is very nice to have them home again! There is life in this house that has been too quiet for awhile.
