Vacations

It has taken a year, but I finally put some photos up of our vacation last year when we were in Alberta and BC. Take a look at www.TroyAndNaomi.com/photography. It seems I only have time when I'm on vacation to post vacation photos.

The State of the Psych

A friend sent me a link to a video with interviews of psychologists about the scientific methods of their trade and their ability to cure people. Very interesting..

Note: While I recommend this video, the site this video is on is from a group associated with Scientology, and I certainly don't condone that group.

Blame it on the rain.

Two weeks of vacation are now history and only one week remaining. The first two weeks were quite wet, so its time for a weather update to make plans for this last glorious week:

More rain on the way.. What a great time to come to the Maritimes for vacation!

MSBC

This past weekend I spoke at my home church, Main Street Baptist Church, here in Sackville, New Brunswick.

It is interesting to see how the Lord works things out. I chose to speak on 1 Timothy 3. The youth pastor at the church also chose 1 Timothy 3 for his teen class, so the youth of the church heard two messages on the same small passage from a very big book. As Pastor Scott put it, "obviously the Lord wanted the teens to learn something from that passage today."

Back from White Head

Last night we got back from visiting some friends on White Head Island. It was a great trip and Ellie was really good on the whole trip.

Missing the boat.
Be on time for ferries. We were told to be at the ferry terminal at 12:00 for the 1:30 ferry. We made it there after a three hour drive at 12:30. Here is a picture of the ferry leaving without us.The car that had been in line in front of us was the last one on..
Leaving without us.
Not to worry, the ferry would return for us in four hours...

Once on Grand Manan we took another smaller ferry to get to White Head Island. We were there for several days and while there I shared our ministry and preached at the baptist church and enjoyed the fellowship.

While Ryan was out lobster fishing I got to spend some time wandering around the island with my camera. It was great to be back by the sea and take in the scenery, even if it was quite foggy sometimes. It is a beautiful little island in the middle of the Bay of Fundy where we experience the worlds highest tides. The beach drains every few hours, exposing lots of beach, rocks, tidal pools and you can walk out on the ocean floor.

Long Point Light House - White Head Island

On the beach.

The night before we left we discovered that the front drivers side tire on our van was low. When we tried to fill it we learned that there was a separation of the ply on it and it was useless. Another complication that required a couple trips on the ferry to fix.
The van jacked up and waiting for a tire.
Since the spare tire seemed to be rusted onto the bracket under the van, we had to take the flat tire off and the morning we were supposed to head for home I had to take the tire (in Ryan's truck which I had to borrow) over to Grand Manan to get replaced, then return to White head and install the tire back on the van, load and then go back to Grand Manan again. A couple more hours waiting and we were on another ferry headed for home.

Thanks for your hospitality Ryan and Kathy-June. We really enjoyed it!

Game delay..

..due to tropical storm Alberto. Naomi, Ellie and I were due to leave for a small island off a small island in the middle of the Bay of Fundy. However, the remnants of Alberto was also due to be there, and we didn't want to be at that party feeling like a shaken martini. I've been on that ferry in a storm and do not really want to experience that again.. We will try again tomorrow.

While on White Head Island (a small island just off the coast of Grand Manan Island), we will be visiting an old friend, meeting some new ones, and sharing our ministry at the church (singular) on that island.

Here in Sackville, NB there was a bit of rain. That is nothing unusual right now as it has rained every day since we started our vacation last week. The rain I am talking about was on January 24, 1919. The winter rain must have been unusual enough that someone painted it on the wall in the paint room at the Campbell Carriage Factory Museum here in Sackville.

This is a fascinating little museum right here in my home town. Apparently the factory ran for over 100 years before it was closed. It seems that the employees locked to door on the way out and nobody disturbed the facility for many years. The tools and patterns for cutting, a few unfinished carriages and sleighs were all left inside. Be sure to check it out if you are in the area.

The Campbell family also started a funeral business and there were a number of casket materials in the factory as well.

Doh! The problem with hand engraving.. there is no eraser to fix it with.

The hubs for the wagon wheels were cut in advance and allowed to dry for at least a year before being used. These never got taken off the shelf.

Spindles get banged into the hubs.

Spindle ends getting shaped.

Wood Point

On Sunday June 11 I had the priveledge of speaking at Wood Point Baptist Church. This is a small church just outside Sackville that has been faithfully supporting Noami and I since we started at WOL. This is also the first church that I ever preached at.

Staff

Naomi and I are now in Sackville after a refreshing and fun time at our semi-annual national staff conference. Together with our co-workers from both the English and French divisions of Word of Life Canada, we were in Schroon Lake for a few days. We had many challenging messages from the Word of God and the theme for the conference was "Serving with Excellence in a World of Mediocrity". Naomi and I both really enjoyed all the Bible sessions.

Weddings

This past weekend I was the photographer for the wedding of Peter Zimmerman and Heather Evison. Heather is the daughter of one of my coworkers. We had a great day and the forecasted thunderstorms and all day rain didn't crash the party. You can see some of the photos on my photography page: www.TroyAndNaomi.com/photography

Later this summer I will be doing the photography for some of our alumni who are getting married. It is very exciting to be a part of these special events, to see the bride and groom and their love and joy on their special day.

Ministry Update - June 2

Year four is done. Today was the last day of classes at the Bible Institute. The students are dispersing across the province and have a couple of weeks off before returning for their summer ministry.

Students writing their last exam.

Dave is bursting with anticipation of going home for a few weeks.

We will be dispersing too. Next week we leave for our national staff conference with the rest of Word of Life Canada’s staff from both the French and English sides of the ministry. The conference will be at the Word of Life Inn located in Schroon Lake. While there, we will be having departmental planning meetings and having numerous Bible sessions. From there we will be traveling on to New Brunswick to spend some time with family and visit supporters and churches. We are both looking forward to having some relaxing time down there, but not nearly as much as my family is looking forward to having Ellie come.

We are so thankful to have gotten to know these students and watch them grow spiritually as they studied the Word of God here at WOLBI. We thank God for those who pray for us and those who support us and allow us to be a part of this ministry.

  • Please pray for safety for us and the rest of the staff as we travel to and from the conference.

  • Please pray for our students as they are home over break. They have important jobs this summer as counselors and staff at our summer camp. Pray that their hearts will be prepared for sharing the gospel with many kids.

Back online

Our ISP likes to play with our minds.. every once in awhile, they change something and don't tell us. So the whole campus goes offline for awhile, like this past weekend (for 5 days).

Anyway, back online now and I must feed the relatives before they starve. So here it comes:

Learning from her parents, Ellie now holds her toy phone up to her ear as she walks around. Yes, she decided that this was the week to start walking. I haven't seen her crawl for two days..
(notice the bug bites on her forehead.. I fear she inherited my allergic reaction to insect bites along with my good looks)

Punk.

Not sure what happened here.. I came around the corner and she was imitating a tripod with her head on the ground playing with a ball and giggling at this different perspective of the world.

That's it for now. Should keep you alive for another day.
