Great balls of fire!

Sweet…

Naomi and I saw the fireball that was witnessed all over the Prairies as we were driving home on Thursday night. At 5:26 PM in the eastern sky, almost directly in front of use we saw the whole sky light up as the meteor entered our atmosphere at a very high velocity (probably around 60 km per second). It only lasted a few seconds, and at first I thought it was a flare, as it was a point source that was so bright, but it moved much too fast for that. As it streaked across the sky it seemed to change colours a few times during it’s short burn, with green being a dominant colour flashing in the evening sky. With one final flash the fireball seemed to break up leaving what looked like several orange sparks which quickly faded.

Naomi described it as looking like a firework going down instead of up.

This was easily the brightest bolide I have ever seen! I’m just thankful that we were actually out and driving in that direction for the brief show.

More photos of Ethan

Of our two girls, Adelaine is the one most interested in babies and dolls. I think we would need to tie a truck around Ethan’s neck to get Ellie to notice him. I think it will take a bit more work to get photos of Ellie with her baby brother.
