Precious in the sight of the Lord
is the death of His saints.
Psalms 116:15
This week my heart and mind are turned to my family back home in New Brunswick.
October 22, right in the middle of a school board meeting I was chairing, I received notification that my paternal grandmother, Eileen Johnstone, passed away at the age of 92. She was a faithful servant of her Lord and Saviour, and is blessed to be in Jesus’ presence today.
She died peacefully while my younger sister sat with her, talking to her and holding her hand.
The next day, October 23rd was the one year anniversary of the death of my maternal grandfather, Clarence Wheaton (91 years old). While I was not able to attend his funeral, I had been able to visit him a few weeks earlier on a quick trip to the Maritimes.
Please pray for me as I fly back to New Brunswick Friday for the weekend to be with my family. Grandma had asked that I give a eulogy, so please pray for opportunities to share the Gospel. To that end, I am packing copies of “The Story that Matters” to hand out at the funeral. The last few days have been a bit of a scramble to prepare for the trip, find an alternate Sunday School teacher and pack.
Also, please pray for Naomi and the kids while I am away. The days are full and there are always new challenges coming along.
“We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope. 14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, in the same way, through Jesus, God will bring with him those who have fallen asleep.”
