Back at home

Back at home with the family means its time to put up some new pictures.

Bunny and Bear are Adelaine’s constant companions. She picks them up whenever you take her from her crib and she can often be seen walking around chewing on their noses or happily hugging them.

Ministry Update :: May 9, 2008

Greetings from London!

Last night we finished up our London TERM seminar where we had between 30 and 45 people in attendance. Some people were not able to be at all the sessions so the numbers fluctuated somewhat over the three days and 20+ hours of teaching. In addition to people from the hosting church, there were around 20 missionaries with a couple different mission agencies who had come for the Gospel training. All told, there were people from every continent except Antarctica here at this particular conference. We are very encouraged by the response and testimonies about the impact of the teaching. Stay tuned: I was able to get video testimonies from a number of people that I will be putting up on the GoodSeed website in the near future.

We also had a very profitable time in Edinburgh, Scotland, last weekend. While there we were able to interview a family that used The Lamb to help teach their children when they were younger. The children and the parents all shared about how this little picture book was a blessing to both the children and the parents. This video too will be up on the website in the weeks to come.

Our team will now be splitting up. The rest of the team travels to Cork, Ireland where they will be conducting another seminar. I was not scheduled to go on that part of the trip, so instead of flying home today I will be taking a few days vacation and ‘hiring’ (renting) a car to tour southwest England. I’m looking forward to having a few days to cruise around and do some photography, but I do wish they didn’t drive on the left side of the road here.

Naomi and the girls are doing well at home. Naomi has been trying to keep things busy in my absence and we are looking forward to May 14 when we are all back together as a family

Please pray for:
Safety for me and the team as we travel
Opportunities to share the Gospel with people I meet
The TERM seminar being taught next week
Naomi and the girls while I am away.

Thanks and God Bless.

Lessons from London

Phones for you

Why did I bring sunglasses?

Why are there not more blind Britons? On a rainy day (and there seems to be lots), 1/3 of the people have umbrellas and the other 2/3 are trying to dodge the umbrellas. Maybe it is a game (see below).

Mind the gap.

Joe is a lousy tour guide.

Europeans like playing games. Here in London a few games in particular stand out, such as ‘Find the Loo’ (perhaps it is fun to watch tourists looking frantically for a public washroom), or ‘Wheres the Litter Bin’ (Joe and I walked around for about 2 hours with empty pizza boxes looking for a garbage can).

This Is London

The left is dangerous. Londoners not only drive on the left, they walk on the sidewalk on the left, go up/down stairs on the left, pass on the left. Everything on the left. We were constantly going against the flow when walking or going down to the Tube. Also, you have to look the opposite directions when crossing the street. Almost got me killed my first day here.. Thankfully, some thoughtful chap put “LOOK RIGHT” and “LOOK LEFT” right on the pavement at every crossing in London. Even with the tips, it was hard to remember. Given all that.. I still consistently forgot, and I plan to start driving on the left today! What was I thinking?

WAY OUT

It rains a lot.

Joe is all things to all people, at least in accents.

It is a small world. One of the first people we met in our room at a hostel in north London was from Calgary, 45 min south from home.

At my Roots

The last several days I have been in Edinburgh, Scotland. My ancestors were part of the Johnstone clan that came from an area not too far from Edinburgh. While here I have been working on several videos for our website. We got to interview the Pastor and his family about their use of The Lamb book and how it was a blessing to their family. We have also done some other videos that should be appearing on our website in the coming months.

Lots of Johnstones in the area.

I ha’ a wee bit o time to see the sights here in Edinburgh, including the imposing Castle. The church we have been fellowshiping at is located on the Royal Mile, the street running from Edinburgh Castle to the Palace at the other end of the street. This is a beautiful old city with lots of character. I have way too many photos and not enough time to sort through them, but here is one to prove I was here.

Ellie and Adelaine’s doll Tux (the Linux mascot) is also along for the ride. Here he is with some local friends getting a tour of High Street in Edinburgh.
